These are volume 2 of images from videos taken in August 2001. I am
still trying out different eyepieces with different situations. This album
includes some better pictures of the Scaly-breasted Bulbul, the juvenile
Grey-rumped Treeswift and a few other species. Most of the pictures were
taken in photo mode for better quality. In some cases, similar pictures
from interlaced video are also available for comparison of their quality.
Pictures from photo and videos have very different luminance in addition
to the obvious better quality of the former. Videos pictures are usually
much darker.
The Scaly-breasted Bulbul was taken in Taiping near the old quarry
area where a fig tree is full of fruits. During most of the two hours I
was there on 18 Aug, the tree was unfortunately also full of monkeys!
No sign of the Thick-billed Pigeon which I intend to video and I had to
be contented with this bulbul species which was high on my video's wanted
list.
The trip to Pos Slim on 19 Aug with Ooi was very rewarding.
In addition to the juvenile Grey-rumped Treeswift along the new highland
road, the logging trail was also very exciting. The Chest-naped Forktail
was at the loggers quarters and it's only a matter of time someone will
show stunning pictures of them as they are not very shy. A juvenile Drongo
was found being fed once by its brood host, probably a Stripped Tit Babbler
but it was chased away by a bulbul and so no picture of the host was taken.
A male Hill Blue Flycatcher also escaped our camera. No sign of the White-crowned
Hornbill. A single dead tree with three different nesting species was found
within about a 10-feet vertical span - Black-browed Barbet on top, Gold-whiskered
Barbet in middle and the Black-thighed Falconet below. The top f loor inhabitant
brought insects into the nest instead of fruits. The Gold-whiskered Barbet
was observed bringing a lizard (about 5 to 6 inches long) into the nest!
At least three falconets flew into their nesting hole. Is it polygamy or
a case of the juvenile staying on in the same 'house' as his parent? Unfortunately,
all these could not be visually documented as the lighting was poor and
we had to leave the place in light drizzle. |
